Where To Go
Search the Sakurajima graveyard at night. If you are looking for an Alpha, check Cherry Blossom Cave instead.
Search the Sakurajima graveyard at night. If you are looking for an Alpha, check Cherry Blossom Cave instead.
Sootseer can produce Bone at a Ranch and still brings level 3 Kindling, Handiwork, and Mining to your base.
Regular Sootseer is for Bone, Crude Oil, and Medium Pal Soul. Predator Sootseer is the one you chase for Core.
Encounter
Use the Secluded Cemetery fast travel point on Sakurajima, then patrol the graveyard after sunset. Sootseer is a nocturnal Pal, so an empty cemetery during the day does not mean the route is wrong.
Circle the tombstones, shrine paths, and the edge of the graveyard before widening the search.
Arrive just before dark, or wait nearby until the night spawn table is active.
Plan for level 46+ regular spawns and nearby Sakurajima enemies.
Sootseer can also appear as an Alpha at the end of Cherry Blossom Cave dungeons on Sakurajima. This is not as direct as the cemetery route because the final Alpha is selected from a dungeon boss pool.
Enter open Sakurajima cave entrances and push to the final boss room.
If the boss is not Sootseer, treat the run as loot and try another open cave.
Good for Alpha collection and stronger fights, but slower than the regular night route.
If you are farming Predator Core, do not follow the regular cemetery route and do not camp one old coordinate. Current v1.0 notes changed Predator Pals from fixed-location targets into low-rate encounters across the map.
Field Route
Make the cemetery fast travel point your anchor. The normal route is a short loop around the graves, shrine paths, and nearby edges of the Sakurajima graveyard.
The regular spawn is tied to night. If the graveyard looks empty during the day, wait for the time cycle instead of abandoning the route.
Check the tombstones first, then widen the loop. If Sootseer does not appear, leave render distance, return later in the night, or run the route again next night.
Use Water or Dragon attacks to control the fight, then finish with lighter hits so you do not knock it out before you can throw a sphere.
Cherry Blossom Cave can produce an Alpha Sootseer, but the end boss is random. Use it after you have already checked the faster cemetery route.
Do not mix regular, Alpha, and Predator drop tables, and do not trust old fixed-coordinate Predator routes without checking current v1.0 data.
Predator Core
Regular Sootseer is a capture and Ranch target. Predator Sootseer is the version you hunt when your goal is Predator Core or Giant Pal Soul.
In v1.0, Predator Pals no longer appear at fixed map pins. Treat Predator Sootseer as a low-rate boss encounter that can appear while you are traveling, then verify the label before fighting.

Base Loop
Sootseer can dig up Bone at a Ranch, which turns a material you would normally farm by hand into a steady base resource.
If your goal is Bone, keep Sootseer focused on the Ranch. Its other work skills are useful, but they can pull it away from the job you actually caught it for.
Keep one for the Paldeck, one for Ranch production, and a better one later if you start breeding for passives or base efficiency.
Start with the night spawn route.
Watch whether it wanders into other jobs.
Make sure produced items are moved into storage.
Breed or recapture once the basic loop is working.
Loot
Regular drop. Current data commonly lists 1 to 2 with a guaranteed drop rate.
The main reason Sootseer matters at base. It drops from the Pal and can also be produced at a Ranch.
A regular drop usually listed as 1 item with a lower drop rate than Bone or Medium Pal Soul.
Farm this from the Rampaging or Predator target. Do not expect it from a normal Sootseer.
Often associated with Predator-target farming. Check the current map and version before planning a long route.
Use the right source for the material you actually need. Regular, Ranch, Alpha, and Predator farming are not the same route.
| Source | Drops / Output | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Sootseer | Medium Pal Soul 1-2, Bone 1-2, Crude Oil 1 | Normal drops and first capture | Current v1.0 data lists Medium Pal Soul and Bone as guaranteed; Crude Oil is listed at 50%. |
| Ranch Sootseer | Bone | Passive Bone income | Assign Sootseer to a Ranch and keep it from being pulled into other base jobs. |
| Alpha Sootseer | Use the current Sootseer drop table unless your map/database lists a separate Alpha table | Paldeck progress, tougher capture, extra combat challenge | Good as a bonus route, but not the cleanest way to farm one specific material. |
| Rampaging / Predator Sootseer | Predator Core 4, Giant Pal Soul 4 | Predator Core farming | Do not farm this version for Bone, Crude Oil, or Medium Pal Soul. Its drop table is different. |
Catch Sootseer and put it on a Ranch. Regular hunting works, but Ranch production is the better long-term method.
Hunt regular Sootseer. Current v1.0 sources list it as a guaranteed regular drop.
Regular Sootseer can drop it, but it is not guaranteed. Treat it as a useful bonus, not your main oil farm.
Go after Rampaging / Predator Sootseer. Regular Sootseer is the wrong target for Core.
Work
Partner Skill
While in your party, Sootseer reduces Neutral damage taken by you and your Pals. When assigned to a Ranch, it can produce Bone, which is the main reason most players keep it at base.
Breeding Hub
These are verified example routes into Sootseer. They are not the full list, but they give players direct answers instead of forcing them to leave the page immediately.
If your Sootseer rolls good passives, keep it. It can feed several useful breeding paths, including another Sootseer for trait preservation.
Use breeding to solve a specific problem: Ranch production, trait storage, or combat prep. Do not hatch blindly if you already have a useful Sootseer.
Use Large Dark Egg as your current v1.0 sanity check. Older combo pages may still say Huge Dark Egg.
For Bone production, keep passives that help base work, uptime, or SAN management. Then keep Sootseer assigned to the Ranch.
Sootseer + Sootseer = Sootseer is useful when you want to preserve a strong passive set for future breeding chains.
If you want to use Sootseer in fights, save combat-oriented passives and plan around its Fire / Dark skill spread.

Patch 1.0
Many players are finding Sootseer through older articles, and some of that information no longer lines up with current v1.0 data. Use this section to spot the common differences before you waste a night route.
Common Mistakes
Go to the Sakurajima graveyard at night, weaken Sootseer with Water or Dragon damage, catch one for the Paldeck, then put a second one on a Ranch for Bone production.
Only switch to the Predator route when you specifically need Predator Core or Giant Pal Soul. For regular materials, the normal night spawn is easier and safer.
FAQ
Sootseer is mainly found around the Sakurajima graveyard at night. Alpha encounters can also appear in Cherry Blossom Cave.
Regular Sootseer drops Medium Pal Soul, Bone, and Crude Oil. Predator Core is tied to Rampaging or Predator Sootseer, not the regular version.
Yes. Sootseer is valuable because its partner skill lets it produce Bone at a Ranch, while its level 3 Kindling, Handiwork, and Mining also make it useful around base.
No. Predator Core should be treated as a Rampaging or Predator Sootseer target. Do not use the regular drop table when you are farming Core.
Those guides are usually based on older data. In current Palworld v1.0 databases, Sootseer is listed as #135.
Bring strong spheres, a fast mount, healing items, and Water or Dragon damage so you can weaken Sootseer without dragging the fight out.
Verified v1.0 examples include Chillet Ignis plus Aegidron, Caprity Noct plus Shaolong, Reindrix plus Bastigor, Rayhound plus Dandilord, Incineram plus Anubis, and Relaxaurus plus Loomen.
Use Large Dark Egg as the current v1.0 sanity check for Sootseer. Older pages may still refer to a different egg size.
Editorial Policy
This guide is maintained as an unofficial Palworld player resource. Sootseer data is checked against Palpedia, PaldB, Palworld Wiki area data, and official Pocketpair update news, with the guide version and review date shown on this page. When sources disagree, current Palworld v1.0 database pages and official update notes are prioritized over older guide data.
